Jamie Derr is a multifaceted artist who specializes in watercolor, oil and acrylic. Jamie holds a BA from Wellesley College and is also an accomplished vocalist/songwriter, who has performed with Grammy award winning artists under the name Jamie LaPearle. Her music and artwork have sold internationally, and she is currently working on publishing an ekphrastic poetry project. She was recently interviewed with Wayne Quakenbush for episode 35 of "Art Matters."

"Proud'' was inspired by a cardinal who frequents her backyard garden. This cardinal shows no fear and flies appears consistently. He is often perched on an arch in the garden with his head held high, in a proud manner.
