John Avakian graduated with honors from the SMFA and has a BFA and MFA in painting from Yale University. In 1989, he began exploring the medium of monoprinting at the SMFA. Avakian's monoprints are in many private collections, as well as in the collections of the New Haven Paint & Clay Club, Fogg Art Museum, and the NY and Boston Public Libraries. He has received numerous prizes and awards for the outstanding quality and unique style of his monoprints.
