Description

If Broadway diva Betty Buckley's debut story wasn’t real, you would never believe it. On the day she arrived in New York City, a quick phone call to her agent led to a last-minute audition. The last woman seen for the day, she booked the role of Martha Jefferson in the original Broadway production of 1776 and became an overnight success story.

Buckley parlayed that success into acclaimed film and television performances such as Carrie and Eight Is Enough, but Broadway still held her heart. On October 7, 1982, she draped herself in a now-iconic fur coat and opened Cats at the Winter Garden Theatre, blowing away audiences and reviewers alike with her powerful rendition of "Memory." Her heart-wrenching performance as Grizabella earned her the 1983 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

This sketch by legendary artist Al Hirschfeld features Buckley as Grizabella, The Glamour Cat. It was first published in The New York Times on December 31, 1982.

This giclée, part of an extremely limited edition, is printed on 15" x 18" hot press paper and has been generously autographed by Buckley. The edition is numbered, includes the official Hirschfeld Foundation embossed seal and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity directly from the Al Hirschfeld Foundation.

This Live Event Item offers Absentee Bidding.
