The 2000 Michele Satta Piastraia delivered the goods, perhaps due to its age. The dark fuschia red was opaque black in the middle and only had a slight bricking at the edge of the glass. The nose was of plums and spicy cherry compote where cinnamon was recognizable. The taste was a super flavourful, smooth black cherry and mocha with a long finish which couldn't hide the still large taste of tannins that will preserve this wine for years to come. Wonderful accompaniment to the sliced beef dish rich in flavour. It is 25% of each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese. TAD GW
