Description

A collection of 6 Italian wines:

Grimaldi Barolo Camilla 2011
Piedmont

Wine Enthusiast 91:

This robust wine opens with aromas of red berry, tilled earth, dark baking spice and a balsamic note. The ripe, hearty palate delivers syrupy black cherry, juicy raspberry, clove and anisette alongside firm tannins. Despite the tannic structure, the dense fruit and warmth of alcohol make it already almost accessible.
Drink 2017–2026.

Cavallotto Langhe Nebbiolo 2014
Piedmont

Wine Advocate 90:

The 2014 Langhe Nebbiolo was born in what Alfio Cavallotto tells me was a problematic vintage with severe hail and rain storms. Because this estate farms according to organic and biodynamic methods, it lost up to 65% of its production. In fact, Cavallotto will not produce Barolo in 2014. The best Nebbiolo fruit was directed to this wine instead. Their loss is our gain as this wine offers a very good quality to price ratio. Fruit was harvested very late (the last few days of October) and the wine shows dark cherry ripeness with good structure at the back. The finish is slightly sweet and the wine ages in large oak casks for 18 months.
Best 2017-2021.

La Poderina Brunello 2012
Tuscany, Brunello di Montalcino

Wine Advocate 92:

The La Poderina 2012 Brunello di Montalcino does a terrific job and never strays far from the Sangiovese path. This is a light weight and buoyant wine with vibrant berry tones, dark fruit, plum, spice, tobacco and pressed violets. The bouquet is authentic and shapely without being too bold or overly intense. The effect is seamless, in fact with a long and silky line of aromatic descriptors that reach a nice place of unity and harmony. The mouthfeel shows similar integration with some refreshing brightness at the back. The finish is a tad short.
Drink 2017-2027.

Le Pupille Morellino di Scansano Poggio Valente 2004
Tuscany, Morellino di Scansano

Wine Advocate 90:

The estate’s 2004 Poggio Valente is made in an extroverted, super-ripe style. It is a full-bodied wine endowed with masses of dark fruit, leather, spices and tobacco that flow onto the palate with superb richness. The tannins are firm, but they are very well woven into the wine’s fabric. Proprietor Elisabetta Geppetti has been making terrific wines for some time, but she hit the bulls-eye in 2004 with her Saffredi. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016.

Piaggia Carmignano Il Sasso 2015
Tuscany, Carmignano

Vinous 95:

Piaggia's 2015 Carmignano Il Sasso is rich, ample and voluptuous in what is a very representative expression of the year. Black cherry, plum, lavender, spice, tobacco and dried herbs develop in the glass, but the 2015 is all about fruit intensity and texture. There is not much subtlety here, but wow, is the 2015 gorgeous.
Drink 2020-2035

Rocca Di Castagnoli Chianti Classico 2007
Tuscany

Wine Advocate 90, Vinous 90:

The 2007 Chianti Classico is an impeccable, elegant wine graced with fine, silky tannins that frame floral red berries, spices and licorice. This soft, inviting Chianti Classico impresses for its superb balance and class.
