My name is Mia. I am an eleven year old student at St.Philip Catholic school in Richmond, Ontario. I have lived here all of my life and been going to St. Philips since I was four years old. I have always had a passion for all forms of art, especially sketching and shading. I have taken a recent interest in painting because of our wonderful visit from Canadian artist Katerina Mertikas. She shared her knowledge and experience with us to create this piece inspired by Chapelle St. Bernard in Mont Tremblant, Quebec. We were taught to use color to represent shadows, reflection, and the depth of the objects to resemble a more lifelike piece. We also learned the technique of using the brush and the paint to add texture to make it more detailed and real. Using vibrant colors really introduced the gorgeous nature winter brings every year it comes and goes. Throughout the artistic process of creating this painting I learned that imperfections make it better and unique. I realized this when my blending started to turn into the same color, but I continued going and it turned out to be beautiful. In my opinion, my artwork is incredibly special because it was not just an art class, it was an experience that I will never forget. I hope that after people see my artwork they will see the effort and time I put into my painting and how proud I am of it.
