Gaston Lacombe's artwork is recognizable by its bold motifs and explosive colors. His hand-drawn or painted designs are often inspired by colors and patterns found in nature, more notably from rocks and minerals, but can also be pure wanderings of the imagination. He does not aim for realism in his work, but rather for a reaction and a connection that can be felt at both an intellectual and guttural level. A large portion of his work deals with the queer experience, perceptions of masculinity, the male-on-male gaze, and male portraiture. Part of his creations also explore the deep emotions triggered by nature and landscape.

His work is in private collections worldwide and in the permanent collection of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum.
