Original Drawing by Ed Fella

Size is 8.5 x11 inches, framed. Colored pencil on paper.

Ed Fella (born 1938) is a renowned American graphic designer, artist and educator known for his experimental and irreverent approach to typography.

His work has influenced a generation of designers and is held in the collections of major museums including the Walker Art Center, the Cooper Hewitt, LACMA and MoMA in New York.

In 2022, a monograph on his 60 year career, "Ed Fella: A Life in Images" was published by Unit Editions and his work was exhibited in multiple shows including "Ed Fella: Drawing" at Fisk Projects in Portland, Oregon which showcased his most recent drawings.

These colored pencil drawings live between the worlds of abstraction and figuration and this specific drawing, donated by the artist to HSMSE, takes its inspiration from their mascot, the dragon. Fella is currently professor emeritus at CalArts and you can see more of his work on instagram.com/edwardfella.
