Sophie Pearson Artist Statement: 

My work navigates the world of fat bodies, primarily using my own as a source of inspiration. In creating paintings that depict fatness through the lens of an actually fat person, I'm bringing an important perspective to an otherwise underrepresented community. My goal is to obtain a reaction from the audience, whether it be solidarity from someone who relates, or opening the eyes of someone who hasn't had the same experience. Whether the viewer is saddened, disgusted, empathetic, or a mixture of everything, I've reached that goal.
