Redwoods Paintings

Fifth graders looked at the paintings of Canadian artist Emily Carr as inspiration for this painting about a redwood forest. Students were inspired by the way that Carr used many tints and shades of color in her paintings and created shapes that seemed to move and flow. They were challenged to create a painting in which the viewer seemed to be looking up at a redwood tree, and to include all of the color and texture that they needed for their forest scene.
