The modern lyre was born out of anthroposophy in 1926, in Dornach, Switzerland, and has been cherished as an instrument of joyous music making and therapy in many Waldorf schools and Camphill Villages around the world.

Tuned at the concert pitch of A=432, the modern lyre's uniquely pure and resonant timbre allows every musical element sounds anew, while its delicate sound invites both players and listeners to create peaceful listening space.

Playing a big chromatic lyre requires harmonies interplay of right and left hand fingers, and is challenging enough for both adults and children (age 9 and above), to learn to play both lyre original and classical music.

Depending on the age and need of the student, a suitable instrument will be chosen from pentatonic, diatonic, chromatic and bordun lyres.

This private lesson can be also done as a group lesson, up to 3 people of all ages 5 and above. (i.e. parent and a kindergartener; 2-3 lower/upper/middle or high school students; 2-3 adults. Expecting parent/s or adult with a very young child is also possible.)

Saeko S Cohn met the modern lyre when her son was three year old. Ever since, she has dedicated her time learning and playing this unique instrument internationally. Also a student of anthroposophy, it is her lifelong commitment to introduce anthroposophic approach to music (one such example is the Mood of the Fifth for children younger than age 9) through playing and teaching of the modern lyre.
