In an attempt to make sense of the numerous difficulties presented by the onslaught of COVID-19 pandemic, I found myself seeking beauty in nontraditional ways. Beauty in death, beauty in loss, beauty in solitude. Spending much of the early months of the pandemic cooped up in a small apartment, I started to notice and appreciate minute changes, such as the changes that occur in a lifespan of a bouquet of flowers, or the imperfections of vegetables from the garden.

I wound up appreciating the beauty of a particular bouquet of flowers long after we’d normally keep them around. Witnessing the death of these flowers, at times, felt like witnessing the death of a friend or a loved one, and I honoured this experience by making portraits throughout their evolution. Like making a portrait of a person, I accepted these organic beings as they were on that day, complete with their wrinkles, their folds, their own personalities.

En tentant de démêler les problèmes causés par les vagues incessantes de la pandémie de COVID-19, j’en suis venu à chercher la beauté non conventionnelle. La beauté de la mort, de la perte, de la solitude. Les premiers mois de la pandémie, quand je ne pouvais pas sortir de mon petit appartement, j’ai commencé à remarquer et à aimer les minuscules changements de tous les jours, comme la durée d’un bouquet de fleurs ou les imperfections d’un légume du jardin.

« Finding The Light » [trouver la lumière] est une démarche pour faire briller la lumière dans les temps sombres.
