Description

"Starry Waters" by Erin Hegarty

Medium: Acrylic, Metal

Size: 19" x 8"

Artist Statement:

This minimalist cod represents Piscis Austrinus, a constellation that predates Pisces and was said by Ptolemy to be drinking starry water from the urn of Aquarius. The evolution of this piece involved additional paint colors and myriad materials including braided rope, marine line, reclaimed fabrics, dried leaves and giant pinecones (scales!) However, in trying to depict Piscis, Erin realized that the beauty of what constellations have telegraphed to watchers through the centuries is the imagination of their shapes and stories. In that spirit - and the drive for simplicity and minimalism in her own design aesthetic - she reverted to the most basic and natural impression of the constellation. In a sky full of stars lie a million characters and stories, unique to every star gazer!

Artist Biography:

Erin is founder and managing partner of the creative design and digital marketing firm, Fresh. A lover of all things arts and crafts since childhood - coloring on walls (and newly painted kitchen cabinets), participating in a gallery show for oil paintings in New York City at age 10, and taking painting and drawing classes through college - Erin loves to find time for personal, quirky art projects that combine her love for drawing and painting with her work delivering simple and clean user experiences. She is thrilled to be creating her first cod for the Festival of Arts.
