Description

The Coffee Shack is a family owned local restaurant with a fantastic view of 26 miles of the Kona coast, overlooking Kealakekua Bay. Our scenic lanai offers an incomparable view of Kealakekua Bay, where the famous explorer Captain James Cook first arrived in Hawaii. We are perched high on the mountain slope overlooking the lush mountainside of fully producing 85 year old coffee trees. Enjoy the beautiful open lanai for breakfast, lunch, or just a quick cup of coffee on your way to Volcano or Pu’uhonua O Honaunaua (Place of Refuge) National Park.

The Coffee Shack is OPEN, daily from 7am until 330pm, (closed on Wednesday), proudly serving 100% Kona coffee, homemade bread, & pastries, and 100% Aloha! The Coffee Shack restaurant has become an internationally recognized favorite spot for many tourists and locals. The Coffee Shack is located on 2 ½ acres in South Kona and also has 1 ¼ acres of Kona coffee trees.

Kahauloa Estate Coffee

Our coffee is known for its flavor and aroma. It is grown on the mountainside directly below our lanai at the 1,400 foot elevation. The slightly higher altitude makes it smooth in taste with plenty of body. We guarantee its top quality.

Our coffee's name is the name by which our orchard's location was known by the early Hawaiians. They had a unique system of land division here in the islands. This was usually done in vertical pie sections, called Ahupua’a, which ran down from the upper mountain slopes, widening out to the shore. Our Ahupua’a was called Kahauloa for the morning wind that sweeps down into our long valley. Its optimum soil, slope, and climate make it ideal for growing the finest coffee available.

When you stop at The Coffee Shack, please take a moment to view the very trees which bear our famous coffee beans. This is truly a connoisseur's and a photographer's paradise. The Arabica coffee grown here in Kona found its way to Big Island from Oahu in 1828. The Arabica variety has thrived here in our fertile, volcanic soils and has become a world standard for taste. Kona's superlative flavor has established our limited, estate coffees as the gourmet's delight.
