ABOUT SAN JUAN ISLANDS You'll be just steps from West Beach where you can set out on the waterways to kayak, surf, and paddleboard, or mosy along the deserted shores. The second-largest and most populous of the San Juan Islands in northwestern Washington, Whidbey is among 172 islands in the archipelago that are famous for their up-close natural diversity (with resident pods of Orcas and marine life, eagles and land mammals) and the magic of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Downtown Coupeville is a few miles away with charming small-town dining and browsing, and nearby Ebey's Landing and Ebey State Park, Joseph Whidbey State Park, and Deception State Park are the spots for scenic hikes and au naturel escape. Seattle is the gateway to this region and is just over 2 hours drive.
