Weaving the Stories Set - pencils, buttons, stickers, poster

In 2015 in celebration of our 35th anniversary, we chose nine Honorees who have contributed in very special ways to our work,  Collectively they have woven the stories of our lives into a rich tapestry of our history. "

Years before the National Women's History Project was founded,  Eleanor Flexner's watershed book, "Century of Struggle," on the American women's rights movement, introduced us to dozens of courageous women leaders and reminded us of countless, nearly forgotten actions by women. 

In 1980, when we began the NWHP, we were very privileged to have Gerda Lerner as Chair of our Advisory Committee and she was soon joined by multicultural scholars Darlene Clark Hine, Vicki Ruiz, and Judy Yung.  Their guidance was essential as we worked to develop materials that reflected the diverse cultural history of all American women. 

Over the years, Lynn Sherr's "Women's Appointment Calendar" was a day-by-day, fun-filled recollection of women's historic events, and Holly Near's music encouraged and challenged us to believe in the extraordinary possibilities of collective action.  In time, we discovered the amazing work that Polly Weltz Kaufman was doing with students in developing the Boston Women's Heritage Trail, and Delilah Beasley's and Glaydis Tantaquidgeon's efforts focusing on the unrecognized women who are so essential to our historic tapestry

Together, these 2015 Honorees have more than 90 titles to their credit - a combination of books they authored, co-authored, or edited - not to mention their other publications, songs, columns, poems, programs, trails, exhibits, displays, and CDs. Collectively, their creations reveal the depth and breadth of the multicultural female experience.
