Description

Michael Tilson Thomas and Seong-Jin Cho together for the first time!

Making his San Francisco Symphony debut, the 29-year-old South Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho applies his powerhouse technique and interpretive finesse to Beethoven’s tender, tempestuous Third Concerto. Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony ups the emotional ante with a profoundly personal testimony. As the composer confessed, "There is not a single line in my symphony which I have not felt deeply, and which does not echo true and sincere emotions."

Michael Tilson Thomas is Music Director Laureate of the San Francisco Symphony, Conductor Laureate of the London Symphony Orchestra, and Artistic Director Laureate of the New World Symphony. He previously held appointments with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. In addition to conducting the world’s leading orchestras and winning twelve Grammy Awards for his recordings, Mr. Tilson Thomas is noted for his work as a composer and for producing projects dedicated to music education and the expansion of the concert experience. His television work includes series for the BBC and PBS, the New York Philharmonic’s Young People's Concerts, and numerous televised performances. He has been profiled on CBS’s 60 Minutes, ABC’s Nightline, and PBS's American Masters. Mr. Tilson Thomas is an Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of France, a member of the American Academies of Arts & Sciences and Arts & Letters, a National Medal of Arts recipient, Peabody Award winner, and Kennedy Center Honoree.
