Description

Just before the Ronald McDonald House Newfoundland and Labrador was set to open in
2012, in partnership with McInnes Cooper, the
Rug Hooking Guild of Newfoundland and Labrador (RHGNL) wanted to create a hooked rug
project to display at the house. They invited
children who had illness or injured and needed
the Janeway Children’s Hospital to submit a
drawing of their most heartfelt dreams.
From the 24 submitted drawings, RHGNL decided to not just select the one, but rather they
created a Hooked Rug Collage. They invited
various celebrities, children, and individuals throughout the province to
participate in the rug hooking project. It was a tremendous community
effort.
What is most interesting about the project was the dreams of the children.
They didn’t dream about being rich and famous, travelling to the moon or
owning a mansion or expensive sports car. Their dreams were all themed
of moments spent with family, friends, and simply being home. It spoke
strongly to Ronald McDonald House of the importance of family moments
and the importance of keeping sick children close to their families during
difficult times of sickness or injury.
While this beautiful Hooked Rug College, still in its original condition, has
been displayed proudly in the hall way of Ronald McDonald House Charities Newfoundland and Labrador since 2014, we have developed limited
edition prints each tapestry. Now we, can share this beautiful artwork that
captured so perfectly the incredible dreams of sick children, with those
that are the closest to us.
The first available limited edition print is named “Rainbow and Families”
by, then eight year old, Adam Snow of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and
hooked by Hooking Matters in Gander can be yours today.
