Beverly Silva's years of working in the city and her trips downtown as a child, were the inspiration for her ongoing series of mixed media cityscapes. Her urban narratives chronicle city life without depicting an identifiable location, seeking instead to capture the essence of the city. She also combines her love of collage with her passion for recycling. She carefully deconstructs discarded vintage books, destined for the recycling bin, and gives them new life as contemporary abstract art. A member of Attleboro Arts Museum, Pawtucket Arts Collaborative and Warwick Center for the Arts, Silva exhibits frequently in group and open juried shows.
"Lines of Communication" is part of an ongoing series of abstract urban landscapes. Working intuitively with geometric shapes, limited palette, and abundant texture, Silva allows each piece she adds to suggest the next. The papers and images selected represent the city's architecture and its culture, with fragments of music, literature, and film. This piece celebrates the arts and man's contribution to his community.
