Description

Wood

17" x 11" x 6"

Following his semi-retirement in 2013 as an academic physician, Phil Gruppuso became a nearly full-time woodworker fulfilling an ambition born of a lifetime as a hobbyist. Gruppuso's time in the shop is divided between commissioned and non-commissioned work that he shows at the Imago Gallery, the Providence Art Club and several other venues each year. He is the owner of Seekonk Woodworking where he creates a one-of-a-kind furniture and accessories.

This desk organizer and clock was inspired by the early 20th Century work of furniture designer Paul Frankel. The piece is veneered in laurel burl. The base incorporates a sliding drawer. The clock, which has a face of the artist's own design, is driven by a quartz movement. It is held in place by magnets, which allow it to be removed from the base for battery changes.
