"Graced by the Light", Kikiaola, Kekaha photo by Dr. Lloyd Fujimoto

Item Number: 999-030
Time Left: CLOSED

Description
This item is an infrared photograph by Kaua'i artist Dr. Lloyd Fujimoto. The view is along a backcountry road, lined by coconut palms, that ascends into the highcountry. The scene has been captured in infrared light giving a ghostly appearance to all of the tree and foliage and making it difficult to discern if it is day or night. The dark sky serves to starkly set off the pale white of the "greenery".
This original infrared photograph measures 19" x 13".
Three palm trees stand tall, their fronds silhouetted against the sky, in this stark black and white photograph. The trees are arranged in a triangle, their trunks rising from a sandy beach. The waves of the ocean crash gently on the shore in the background.
The photo is both serene and evocative. The simplicity of the black and white palette creates a sense of calm and tranquility, while the triangular composition of the trees suggests a sense of balance and harmony. The palm trees themselves are iconic symbols of tropical paradise, and their presence in the photo evokes a sense of longing and escape.
Dr. Lloyd Fujimoto is a practicing dentist in Lihue, Kauai. He graciously donates this rare photo of iconic coconut trees to the Center because his father was a long time supporter of the Lawai International Center. He hopes that this gift will help the Center to grow, flourish and help the world.
