This item is an original gyotaku (fish print) by craftsman Ray Nitta. Traditionally, Japanese fisherman would record the type/size of some of their catch by printing the fish on washi (Japanese paper) but this practice later evolved into an art form. Ideally, a rare fish would be caught, the fish would be printed on paper creating art, and it would then be enjoyed for dinner. This piece measures 17" x 39". Printed on rice paper and mounted on foamcore board.

This handsome work is a print of an ulua fish that was caught by Michael Ng. Ray Nitta has printed the fish in sumie ink and set the image off with a beautiful blue color. The ulua looks good enough to eat!

Ray Nitta is a long term, indespensible member of the 88 Shrines ohana and contributes so much in so many areas. He is currently working on the design for a bell tower to add to the site of the Hall of Compassion.
