Description
This watercolor by Paula Lay measures 18" x 14". Ready to hang.
Paula J. Lay was born and raised in the wide open plains of West Texas. Paula’s love of art and animals began in early childhood as she spent her hours browsing through a set of Encyclopedia Brittanica. She studied the illustrative plates of every kind of bird and beast, and practiced drawing them over and over again.
Paula graduated with an MA in literature from the University of Houston at Clear Lake. She first began her career as an English and Humanities teacher and for a time, art took a backseat. When she and her husband, Roger moved to Kenai, Alaska, Paula began searching for a way to distract herself from the long, dark Alaskan winters.
That’s when she discovered watercolor, promptly falling head over heels in love with this expressive medium.
Paula’s paintings are colorful and varied, ranging from the delicate to the bold as she celebrates the unique personalities of her subjects. Her art encourages you to look closely at her paintings. If you do, you’ll find the eyes of Paula’s animals looking back; a provoking reminder they are watching us too. Her abstracts are created to evoke strong emotions with their compelling combinations of color.
Paula currently lives in the beautiful Texas Hill Country in the small town of Boerne. She and her husband, Roger share their home with four papillons, and two dwarf rabbits, Buddy and Pearl.
