This custom-made, clay baking bowl perfectly bakes your favorite breads into a beautiful round loaf. Porous clay traps steam while bread is baking for an extra crispy crust. Great for any type of dough, even wet doughs such as sourdough, rye, and pre-ferments.
This bread bowl measures 2.75 inches by 8 inches (10.25 inches with handles) and bakes a 1.5 pound loaf. Coat the inside of your bowl with neutral oil before each use; a nice patina will develop over time. Additionally, sprinkle a thin layer of cornmeal or semolina into the bottom of the oiled bowl to prevent sticking.
The bowl is oven-safe up to 450°F, and it is okay to place a room-temperature bowl into a preheated oven. The bowl is not for use under a broiler or on the stovetop.
This bowl is not freezer-safe. It will not withstand extreme temperature changes from refrigerator to hot oven or vice versa.
Let the bowl cool completely before cleaning. Hand-wash with warm water only -- do not use soap as stoneware will absorb it. Do not soak before baking; it may cause the bowl to crack.
Set your pan on a trivet when not in the oven to prevent scratching of kitchen tables and counters.
