Each woodcut begins with a smooth block of wood and an idea. I first draw on the block and then use various sharp tools to cut textures and depths that bring the image to life. Because the printing process reverses what is drawn on the block, I must work carefully and create many test prints to achieve a finished woodblock. Some prints are created for black and white; others are painted to add color, light, and shade.
