Loralei Paukert is a graduating SBS 8th grader and winner of the Napa Town and Country Fair Avian Bowl!! (It's like Jeopardy, but all about birds.)  This Grand Champion Poultry expert will act as mother hen to day-old chicks and hand them to you, ready to live in your coop.  This means you get to skip the messy, stinky, in-your-bathtub-brooder situation that baby chicks require. SCORE!

You and Loralei will work together to order the chicks; she can help you choose which breed of hen will work best for your new flock.  Chicks will arrive from the hatchery in mid-April, and 6-8 weeks later the beautiful hens will be ready to go home with you (as early as June 3, but not later than June 12, the last day of school). 

If your new hens are given at least 14 hours of daylight every day, they should begin laying eggs by Fall 2024.
