Giorgi is the 1992 World Youth under 12 champion and tied for first place in the World Youth Under 16 Championships in 1996. He is an eleven time Georgian Youth National champion, and became an International Master at the age of 17. He represented the republic of Georgia in the 1999 European Team Chess Championship.
