This piece is a reflection on a day on the ocean. The vase traces time around its circumference, from the foggy start of the day to the glorious painted sky near the end. The technique chosen (sgraffito through black slip with hand painted underglaze and glaze) gives me the freedom to linger on the details.
L’œuvre représente une journée sur l’océan. Le vase trace les heures le long de son contour, passant des brumes matinales à la splendeur du ciel crépusculaire. La technique choisie (sgraffite, un fond noir avec une sous-glaçure et glaçure réalisées à la main) m’a donné la possibilité de m’attarder aux détails.
Special Instructions
I live and work in Ontario, but my roots are in the Maritimes. Both places provide the wealth of natural imagery that repeats throughout my work. My interest printmaking and painting strongly influences my decorative choices. Once I discovered sgraffito the way forward in ceramics was clear!
Je vis et travaille en Ontario, mais mes racines sont dans les Maritimes. Les deux endroits m’inspirent la richesse du motif naturel qui se répète dans mes œuvres. L’intérêt que j’ai envers la gravure et la peinture influence grandement mes choix décoratifs. Quand j’ai découvert la technique du sgraffite, il était clair que j’allais me consacrer à la céramique!
