An offshoot of their eponymous performance, REST/RESIST addresses the affective struggles of reckoning with the shape and structures of institutionalized colonial powers. Among other things, bricks are both a building material and a clandestine weapon - they can be used to create and to dismantle. By demanding that the work’s composition be ultimately determined by their owner, the work reveals how the shape our relations is governed by agentic choice, often within constrained circumstances.

Né de la performance éponyme, REST/RESIST [REPOS/RÉSISTANCE] parle de l’épreuve affective qu’est la prise de conscience de la forme et des structures des pouvoirs coloniaux institutionnels. Les briques sont entre autres à la fois un matériel de construction et une arme clandestine : elles servent à construire et à déconstruire. En exigeant que sa composition soit ultimement guidée par la personne qui la possède, l’œuvre révèle la façon dont nos relations sont gouvernées par des choix agentiques, souvent restreints par les circonstances.
