Scratching beneath the surface of discarded tires reveals the shiny steel-belted linings also revealing incompatible paradigms. With the raw material carrying such meaning, I keep the motif simple. The grid sculpture make reference to systems; perhaps political, perhaps economic, where those systems are either held accountable or at least questioned.
Sous la surface des pneus usés se révèle l’éclat de la ceinture d’acier, et par la même occasion, deux paradigmes incompatibles. Le matériel brut étant déjà évocateur, je voulais que le motif soit simple. La sculpture en grille est une référence aux systèmes, politiques voire économiques, et là où ces systèmes sont incriminés ou à tout le moins critiqués.
Special Instructions
After working in the government for many years, Joyce Westrop went back to school to pursue art. Westrop majored in drawing and sculpture, graduating with a BFA. Since then, she continues to learn and experiment in her studio at the Enriched Bread Artists’ studios. She is represented by galerie StLaurent+Hill.
Après avoir été fonctionnaire pendant des années, Joyce Westrop est retournée aux études pour se tourner vers l’art. Elle se spécialise en dessin et en sculpture et obtient son baccalauréat en beaux-arts. Depuis, elle poursuit son apprentissage et expérimente à son atelier, situé à l’immeuble d'Enriched Bread Artists. Elle est représentée par la galerie St-Laurent + Hill.
