Description

17" Budstikke carved from cherry wood by Tom Latané. A budstikke is a turned wooden container once used for posting official proclamations in public places by wedging the spike at one into a crack in a timber or post. Tom learned about budstikker when he read "Heritage of Darkness" by Kathleen Ernst. This murder mystery set in Decorah, involves a rosemaling class at Vesterheim Museum where a threat is delivered in a budstikke. Tom rived, hewed, and turned this beautiful cherry wood budstikke on a 19th-century foot-powered lathe. The auction winner may find a proclamation lettered by Kitty Latané rolled up inside.
