The Oil & Fluid Acrylic art of Marie Hayes

Originally her work was in oil and at times it still is, now fluid acrylics have been her favorite medium for the past several years.  This form of abstract art uses acrylic paint aided by mediums that bring it to a consistency approximating honey.  Fluid art is the process of pouring paints onto a canvas to create unique pieces using paint that is more liquid than traditional acrylics. This form teaches the artist a great deal about materials and is great for experimenting with color and technique.  Fluid art lends itself very well to the watery environment we love living with here on Cape Cod.  She loves color and strives to make something lovely, colorful and surprising to look at, often with an ocean or seaside vibe. Marie feels that every artist develops his/her own style.  Marie's background is based in graphic art, advertising and publishing.

Her work is on display at ArtNova Gallery 463 Main St., Chatham  artnovagallery.com/marie-hayes/

Marie Hayes

A native of Hudson, Massachusetts, Marie came up in a creative family and always had an interest in making/improving things with her hands. As a young woman, she married and moved to Chicago in 1965. While her three children attended school, she pursued an education at the University of Illinois at Chicago and graduated with a degree in Communication Design in 1983. Over the next fifteen years, Marie would work in advertising for newspapers and magazines including three years in the Art Department at Bell Labs. From 1998, Hayes spent part of her time in Chatham and eventually moved there full-time in 2004. Hayes began painting Cape Cod scenes on various pieces of old furniture found at yard sales and sold them locally. Her foray into fine art began with painting in oils on canvas, which she found wonderfully fun and inspiring. Since then, Marie has been experimenting with as many different styles and media as possible and has found great satisfaction in expressing her creativity through many of them.
