Artist: Whitney Heavey

Whitney Alexanderson Heavey loves painting the natural environment, with particular interest in the ocean and its coast. Born and raised in Massachusetts, Whitney has spent her life exploring and painting its diverse landscape, most especially its coastline in Chatham, the place she has called home since a very young age. She received her BS in Fine Arts from Skidmore College, during which time she studied for a year in Florence, Italy at Studio Art Centers International (SACI). After teaching art, working as an art buyer for children's publishing companies and raising her two daughters, Whitney started painting full time in 2005. She has been juried into many selective shows, including one at the Cambridge Art Association, juried by Nicolas Baume, Director of the ICA, Boston. Among awards, she received a First Prize in oils at the All Cape Cod Art Show at the Creative Arts Center in Chatham, MA. Most recently, Whitney had the honor of jurying the same show. Whitney is a member of the Copley Society of Art, The Creative Arts Center of Chatham, and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. Whitney lives in South Chatham full time with her husband and yellow lab. She is represented by The Munson Gallery (online) in Chatham and by the Portland Art Gallery in Maine. To schedule an appointment at Whitney’s studio (at The 204, 204 Sisson Road, Harwich) or for more information, visit WhitneyHeavey.com.
