American and British-born artist Laura Fisk did not begin her career as an artist. After receiving a BA from UMass, she trained in art and film in L.A. Her PBS doc on code talking got national credit. Now shifting her artistry to mixed media, Laura is discovering that creating with botanicals, acrylics, and 3D tools enables her to decipher the natural world through monoprinting. Laura lives in Cumberland, RI and her art was selected for the AAM's National Juried Exhibit, "Used," in 2023.

"Tornado" is a monoprint inspired by the F1 Tornado to hit Cumberland, RI in the summer of 2024. While walking the Blackstone River Bikeway, Laura, plucked leaves from a toppled tree laying across the Blackstone River. Using vivid acrylics, Laura was inspired by the natural beauty of the leaves and the destructive force of nature correcting itself. The work was created in one setting with four primary acrylic paints, metal dragonfly stamps, and a screen mesh.
