Valerie Haggerty-Silva is a mixed media artist, illustrator and surface designer with years of experience as a graphic designer in the nonprofit world. She holds a BFA in Illustration from RISD, a Certificate in Graphic Design from BCC and is currently teaching children's art classes at the AAM. Valerie continues to explore imagery, materials and mark making as a practice that strengthens attention, builds understanding, sparks conversation and creates community.

This piece is part of a series inspired by nature and the woodlands. Valerie delights in finding ways to weave her love of the natural world into the practice of collage, playing with paper and exploring shape, color and patterns! She's always looking for just the right bits and pieces to add line, texture and visual interest to a surface.
