Sue Butler's portraits communicate the personality and feelings of the subject with a simple narrative of line, color, and form. Butler was a speech therapist and make-up artist, and hence concentrated attention on her subject matter's face. She is a long-time resident of Bristol, RI where she maintains a studio.

This self portrait is a study which exhibits Butler's signature brush work and bright color palette. This painting is from a continuing series of woman's faces.
