The cross is a St. Benedict crucifix, which features a traditional corpus on a flared edged cross, backed by a St. Benedict medal.

The St. Benedict medal contains the image of St. Benedict on one side and the cross of St. Benedict on the other. There are many letters incorporated into the St. Benedict cross, which all have important meanings. On the cross is found C S S M L - N D S M D, which are the initials for the words Crux sacra sit mihi lux! Nunquam draco sit mihi dux!(May the holy cross be my light! May the dragon never be my overlord!). Around the cross can be found V R S N S M V - S M Q L I V B, for the words Vade retro Satana! Numquam suade mihi vana! Sunt mala quae libas. Ipse venena bibas!
