2 Bottles of Helix Wine from the Columbia/Walla Walla Valley
Helix Wines: For the last six generations, we’ve lived and farmed the fertile soils of eastern Washington and Oregon. With every generation, our efforts have been driven by a sense of adventure and discovery. From embarking on the Oregon Trail and settling a farmstead in Helix, Oregon to starting a new chapter of our family’s legacy— Helix Wines— in 2003, we are passionate about the land. Together with our sister brand REININGER, we are dedicated to exploring the 11 million acres that make up the diverse,â unbounded Columbia Valley of Washington State.
2020 Helix Marvin Red Blend: The Helix Marvin red blend is a testament to the enduring legacy of our grandfather, Marvin, who built a thriving wheat farming business with love and dedication in Helix, Oregon. As a farmer and family man, he lived to the impressive age of 101, leaving behind a lasting impact on all of us. This unique Southern Rhône red blend perfectly captures the spirit of Marvin's generosity, compassion and perseverance. Our blend honors him and 20 years of Helix Wines. As Marvin always said, "Mission accomplished." Marvin Tucker was a soft spoken, kind, caring, gentle man as well as an excellent athlete, but most of all, Grandpa Great to our children. In his honor we chose to release a wine that reflects his wonderful personality and name this wine Marvin. Its gentle character displays scents of pomegranate, red currant jam, cherry, with hints of fig and herb. A soft palate reflects the nose with the addition of Japanese plum and cranberry. Cheers to an incredible farmer and to a generous and great man!
2020 Helix Cabernet Sauvignon: The first vintage of Helix Cabernet Sauvignon was in 2005. Primarily sourced from Phinny Hill and Stone Tree Vineyards, year after year our Cabernets have bright acidity and lively dark fruit notes. 2020 was perhaps the most challenging growing year in our winery’s 25-year history. A fall freeze (2019), an extremely dry winter/spring, poor fruit set due to rain and wind, late summer triple digit heat spikes, covid, forest fires…the result: small, light-weight open clusters, small berries and exceptionally low yields, excellent color and excellent quality. A nice ruby/purple color lifts expectation. Bing cherry, black currant and dried fig rush the nose before scents of dried tobacco, graphite, and crushed petals of violet and rose. The beautiful acidity focuses on intense cherry flavor that crescendos two thirds through. Blackberry, currant and plum sing in the background. A thin, dapper layer of heavy toast escorts a floral vestige wrapped around lasting fruit.
