Jan Godachy started taking watercolor classes about 25 years ago. Her process is primarily representational and intuitive. Her favorite subject to paint is the ocean, which has many moods and contact motions. "I can't always explain how or why I'm doing something. I am a shoot-from-the-hip painter". She has won hundreds of ribbons and awards for her watercolors and has had her work in museums. "I find watercolor to be the greatest challenge of all. It keeps your mind engaged like a puzzle. It makes you vulnerable. There are mess ups and many happy surprises."
