Destin Heilman is the astrophographer who took this amazing photograph NGC 2237, the Rosette Nebula (also known as Caldwell 49). This complex nebula, found in the constellation of Monoceros, offers the familiar shape of a rose with a 4 million year old star cluster at its core. The young cluster has wind swept (stellar wind that is) the surrounding gases into intricate plumes and wisps. Shock fronts are visible in the oxygen channel (blue) and prominent dust in the foreground makes for a dynamic contrast with the gases behind. The overall nebula complex is over 100 light years wide at a distance of approximately 5000 light years from Earth.

Capturing this image required approximately 17 hours of data collection (over several nights) and another 24 hours to process the picture.

Personally printed and mounted by the photographer, this is a professional quality print made using archival-grade pigments that will resist fading or bleaching over time (rated for 100 years or more). All prints are numbered, signed and dated, and mounted on acid-free media using archival techniques to preserve the quality of the print.
