The Ruffed Grouse Society is a national non-profit conservation organization dedicated to improving the environment for ruffed grouse, woodcock, and other forest wildlife.

David A. Maass' skill in creating duck stamp designs is wildly recognized. In 1977, he was asked by the Department of Natural Resources to re-create the official logo of the Minnesota Waterfowl Association for the state's first waterfowl stamp. He had designed the original logo shortly after the association's formation in 1967. And in 1979, Maass's striking design of a pair of pintails was selected as the third Minnesota Duck Stamp Print. In 1980, his work was displayed at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.
