Onward Art Label Series - Onward Wines 2022 Rose of Zinfandel, Mendocino

Delicate aromas of white peaches intertwined with wild roses; layers of citrus, red plum and yellow quince flavors; and a refreshing, clean finish, thanks to its vibrant acidity. This wine is brimming with layers of vibrant fruit and minerality, while having silky texture. She is friendly, fun, and easy to be around!

This old vine Zinfandel is from Hill vineyard in Mendocino, which was planted in the early 1970s and is organically farmed by the Johnsons, who are 5th generation growers and the owners of our long time favorite vineyard Hawkeye Ranch in Redwood Valley.

This is a whole cluster press rose, which was gently pressed for about 4 hours of skin contact time and then the juice was cold settled in stainless and fermented in neutral French oak BBL and puncheons.

This label features a painting by Sally White King, visit her website sallywhiteking.com to see more of the works of art that this amazing woman creates.

Onward Wines are single-vineyard, site-driven wines from vineyard sites that are very special to me. I am a true believer in personal connection and there is a story behind each vineyard site and how it came to be part of my portfolio. In these stories, you will learn more about the people behind these vineyards. I liken my connection to these vineyards to that of one’s favorite shirt or coffee mug or chair. Like a well-worn fabric or a slightly chipped mug that may have initially caught my eye for its beauty, but over the years has won my heart because it just feels right. When it comes to vineyards this happens too, because of a combination of my connection with the vines themselves and my connection with those that tend them. For me, the grower's hands are most definitely part of the terroir.

My style is about letting the vines speak. They are the art, I am the canvas, and my job is to give them a chance to share their beauty in each and every vintage. My decisions are driven by the vineyard and the vintage, my cellar practices are to uphold the truths I find in the vineyard. To this end, I pick early looking for a balance of flavors at lower ripeness, as I find this is when each vineyard is in its most unique expression of self.

Reeve 2018 H Klopp Vineyard Chardonnay Sonoma Coast

This vineyard was planted for us in 2014 by Ted Klopp and his daughter Lauren. H. Klopp—is planted to four different clones and has at least as many variations of Goldridge soil compositions. We love what this vineyard has shown in its first few vintages—namely an incredible depth of flavor in a very focused and bright package.

Each bottle of Reeve is the result of pursuit. Pursuit of the best vineyards in California. Pursuit of the best growing and winemaking practices. Pursuit of the perfect expression. The perfect expression of what exactly? Of this particular vineyard, with that particular slope, with this particular grower, with this year’s particular weather—all filtered through our own lens and style.

Since every vintage is unique, this pursuit is never-ending—which is exactly how we like it. While we are in good company here in Sonoma County—an area overflowing with local wine-making knowledge, passion, talent—there are a few things that, when taken together, we believe make Reeve pretty special.

Vultur 2019 Gryphus Blend, Colchagua Valley, Chile

Elegant and complex wine of limited production. Predominantly Carmenere, with final blend percentages based on qualities of the year's vintage. Petit verdot enhances Carmenere's elegance and Petite sirah adds structure, color and aging potential. Gryphus has an intense ruby red color, showcasing the typical spicy touch of Carmenere, with cassis and licorice aromas. On the palate it's a structured and elegant wine, with lovely soft, rounded tannins and a complex finish.

Karl Lawrence 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, Pocai Vineyard, Napa Valley

Our winemaker, Bruce Devlin, says that the wine has a refined palate with full, rich, silky tannins adding strength to the finish. Deep garnet-purple in color, it springs from the glass with pronounced black currant cordial, plum preserves and blueberry pie scents plus touches of dusty soil, stewed tea, tobacco and wild sage. Full-bodied, the generous black fruit preserves are framed by ripe, grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with an herbal lift.Name of Winery: Karl Lawrence Cellars

Smaller batches mean greater quality control. When you purchase a bottle of Karl Lawrence, you're not paying for a heavy bottle, an extravagant facility, or a marketing staff. You're paying for a bottle of great wine.

We've operated as a word-of-mouth winery for twenty-five years because of our loyal customers. And we are loyal in return. We can keep the price down as long as they continue to spread the good word.

Cab is King! Making premium wine starts with this Valley and great grapes. Since 2013, we have been sourcing grapes from the Pocai Vineyard in the Calistoga Appellation, and the Fig Tree Vineyard at the base of Howell Mountain, in the St. Helena Appellation.
