Description
Frozen Water, watercolor by Frederica Ann (Fritzi) Morrison (American, Quincy, Illinois, 1909-2007) donated by Old Number Six Book Depot in Henniker, NH.
An Illinois artist, Ms. Morrison was a member of the American Watercolor Society and used the credential (AWS) as part of her signature. She is a listed artist and held over 60 solo exhibitions in her career. A student of Eliot O’Hara, and is said to have also studied under Karl Knaths, Charles Hawthorne, Anthony Thieme; she worked in watercolors and often times painted from memory scenes of her travels across the United States. She is also a listed artist on the Illinois Women Artists Project.
Fritzi Mohrenstecher married John Morrison, a native of New Hampshire in 1933. Their son, Ian Morrison, along with his wife Helen, have been bookstore owners in various locations of the country but as of late, are the owners of Old Number Six Book Depot in Henniker, NH. If you are a book lover, you must visit Old Number Six and plan to spend several hours!
Artwork details: 11” h x 13 ½” w, matted (also poly sealed) 18 ¼” h x 20 ½” w. Reverse label on mat reads “Frozen Water” “Painted in the car going east with Johny M.” Work is signed Fritzi Morrison in lower right corner followed underneath by her credentials AWS in a brown watercolor paint, and is undated.
