Kathie Cook Biography
Kathie has been quilting for 35 plus years. Her quilts are all hand sewn.

- Acceptance to 2007 Form Not Function - Quilt Art at the Carnegie
- 2013 Individual Artist Project Award from the Rasmuson Foundation in Alaska

were married in 1971 and via his Air Force career traveled around the U.S.
and lived for seven years in Germany. She taught in Massachusetts, in Alaska and with the Department of Defense Schools in Germany. Artist Statement
I am a quilt lover. I am an art lover. Like so many others, my journey has gone from traditional patterns to creating my own. I need to be up close and personal with the fabric, and therefore my quilts are 100% hand sewn. My favorite artists are: Claude Monet for his use of light, Edouard Manet for helping to launch the impressionist movement, Vincent Van Gogh for his simplicity and bold colors and Andrew Wyeth for he sense of place. My favorite quilt makers are: The Ladies of Gees Bend for their practicality of using every scrap of fabric, Nancy Crow for her sense of color and composition and Alice Beasley for the boldness of her belief that quilts tell a story. I strive to incorporate these attributes in my work.
