I Can't Breathe

Item Number: A19
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
Alice Kim generously donated this haunting "I Can’t Breathe" print by Carlos Barberena.
Carlos Barberena commemorates the Houston-raised George Floyd, joining his image with his last words, "I can’t breathe." First circulated in 2014 after New York City police were captured on video choking Eric Garner to death, those three words have since become a rallying cry for the Black Lives Matter movement. According to a 2020 report by the New York Times, "I can’t breathe" has been said by over 70 people who died in police custody. (rewrite the world website)
