Description

One grape variety, from two countries and two different winemaking styles.

Penfolds, a pre-eminent Barossa Valley, Australia winemaker since the 1840s, created RWT thirty years ago and marketed it as a “baby Grange”; Grange shiraz being the premiere Australian shiraz. This 2011 RWT gained a 93 Wine Spectator rating.

The 2016 Ramey Rodgers Creek Syrah, from the Russian River Valley of the Sonoma Coast, also scored 93 points.

Special Instructions

This pairing offers a fascinating study in terroir and style: Australia’s bold, richly textured Shiraz versus California’s cooler-climate, Rhône-inspired Syrah. Both the Penfolds RWT and Ramey Rodgers Creek Syrah showcase exceptional craftsmanship and aging potential, offering deep, layered flavors of dark fruit, spice, and savory undertones. Together, they invite a side-by-side tasting experience that highlights the versatility and global appeal of this beloved grape.
