Begun in 1988, the Avatars series adds to an ongoing project of photographs and projections made around Port Renfrew, BC, in 2023 and 2024. It continues a lifelong interest in trees, their 'disappearance', the ecology of forests, and their important role in the wealth of the natural world.

Commencée en 1988, la série Avatars s'inscrit dans un projet de photographies et de projections réalisées autour de Port Renfrew, en Colombie-Britannique, en 2023 et 2024. Elle poursuit un intérêt de toute une vie pour les arbres, leur « disparition », l'écologie des forêts et leur rôle essentiel dans la richesse du monde naturel.
Special Instructions
Lorraine Gilbert studied Environmental Biology at McGill and Forestry at the graduate level at UBC, before embarking upon a professional artist's career 47 years ago. Gilbert has also been teaching art and photography at the university of Ottawa since 1990. As of this summer, she will be devoting herself full-time to her work.
