"Martyr" depicts a white Great Pyrenees dog on a blue background. The dog is wearing a spiked anti-wolf collar, as a livestock guardian. These dogs are compelling to me thematically because they straddle a line between tame and wild; they are domesticated to be physically capable of fighting feral animals.

« Martyr » représente un chien de montagne des Pyrénées blanc sur fond bleu. Il porte un collier à pointes pour le protéger des loups, car il doit défendre le bétail. Sur le plan thématique, ces chiens m’interpellent parce qu’ils chevauchent la frontière entre l’état apprivoisé et sauvage ; ils sont dressés afin de combattre des animaux féroces.

I'm an Indigenous painter from downtown Ottawa. I was raised outside of traditional Indigenous culture and I believe it’s incredibly important to create a visual presence for the underrepresented urban Indigenous experience. I enjoy combining elements of Anishinaabe Woodland style with my formal education in art.
Je suis une peintre autochtone du centre-ville d’Ottawa. J’ai grandi en dehors de la culture autochtone traditionnelle et je crois qu’il est extrêmement important de créer une représentation visuelle de l’expérience autochtone urbaine sous-représentée. J’aime combiner des éléments du style anishinaabe « woodland » à mon éducation artistique formelle.
