About the Artist:

Kenneth Lorey Cole (1926-2008)

Cole was born and raised in Lansing, Michigan. During WW II he served in the Navy stateside as a Printer’s Mate, printing weapons manuals and other military documents.

From the mid-1960s until 1991, Cole worked for the Michigan Health Department as a graphic designer and resident artist, creating numerous paintings and sculptures, some which were on display in the Capitol Building during that era. Cole’s artistic talent was highly regarded in the Lansing region.

Cole was entirely self-taught, except for a correspondence course in illustration called the “Famous Artist Course”. The school was founded in 1947 and featured a faculty of well-known illustrators, including Norman Rockwell.

This piece is a testament to Cole's talent for capturing both motion and emotion, making it a perfect addition to any art collection, especially for those who appreciate Michigan’s artistic heritage.
