Description

A beautiful glass paperweight designed by glass and jewelry artist, Joyce Roessler.

Joyce is no longer making her glass paperweights, so this is a rare opportunity to acquire one.

Click to enlarge the picture so you can see the detail of the interior seascape with fish. It is amazing.

This item is on display at the church if you would like to see it.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1955, Joyce began drawing at an early age. Her Grandmother, a well-known cellist of her time, mentored her art education. In 1969 Joyce moved to Birmingham, Alabama and was accepted into the prestigious Alabama High School of Fine Arts where winning state-wide competitions propelled her forward on her artist journey. While attending Ohio University she was introduced to hot glass as an art medium which led to a 40 year involvement with mastering glass.

In 1980 she moved to Portland and built Maine’s first hot glass studio with fellow artist Chris Heilman. Their collaboration was deemed historically important and their art glass was acquired by Portland Museum of Art and The Jones Museum of Glass.  During this time Joyce studied painting at Portland School of Art.

In 1993 she moved to Boston’s South End and founded Roessler Glass, the first glass & jewelry studio in the now booming SOWA district. During this time Joyce met the renown glass artist Josh Simpson and collaborated with him for over 5 years. She would continue to pursue classes in painting at various schools, workshops and residency programs throughout New England. A pull to be more immersed in nature landed Joyce in Cape Ann just North of Boston where she creates in her Annisquam Studio or can be found painting Plein Air.
